MMS has left Las Vegas… for Good? As we closed the expo doors on another Microsoft Management Summit and shut off the lights, I have to wonder if this will be the last trip to the strip for a long time to come. Rumors were abundant this year that MMS would see its final year as a trade show in 2012. But Brad Anderson wowed the audience at his Day 2 keynote by announcing MMS 2013 would be in New Orleans in June. I for one am already looking forward to the natural weight loss conditions of New Orleans during the Summer. But New Orleans was not the only “hot” topic at MMS this year. At RES Software we also … READ MORE >>

If you want to enable your users to request software installations or other machine related actions on their own computer with Service Orchestration and RES Automation Manager, you need to make sure that Automation Manager is able to determine which Agent to schedule the Run Book to. This article describes how you can accomplish that. On the Automation Manager side Create a Run Book that performs the desired task(s) on the user’s machine. This could be a software installation but also a defragmentation or predefined cleanup task. When configuring the Job inside the Run Book make sure to select the ‘Ask during Run Book scheduling’ option. SAM I am and I do not like green… It’s not often that I get to step to the mountain top and proclaim such a unique achievement in a software company, but today is not like any ordinary day. Today marks the day that RES Software has announced achieving the Microsoft SAM (Software Asset Management) competency. I am beside myself with pride at this particular accomplishment because, unlike any other, it truly exemplifies the spirit of a united organization.
Park City; It’s not just for skiing anymore. I think the best way to start this latest NFR blog is with a hearty congratulations to my old colleagues and friends at Microsoft. Earlier today they announced the much anticipated official Beta of a project code named “Park City”, or officially UE-V. User Experience Virtualization has been in the pipe for a long time now and with this announcement by Microsoft today it sends a clear message across the user state virtualization space. And that message must absolutely be taken seriously -or desktop modernization projects could be in jeopardy. As you might guess, I’ll get much more verbose on this topic. But here’s the RES story in a nutshell: IT needs … READ MORE >>

The Tech Exchanges are a full day of immersive presentations on new features and functions. I also got to listen in to my new friend, Bhumik Patel’s presentation on using XenDesktop with Cisco UCS. Catch up here, as I start from the end of the ITaaS spectrum, giving IT admins a comprehensive view of how all the pieces of ITaaS must come together for a successful transformation. This post will cover the first step in the process, the crucial discovery phase. By Adam Stockley, Pre-sales Consultant, RES Software Discovery The first step in any transformation is to understand exactly what you are dealing with today. IT infrastructures are complex, and in many cases, the requirement for flexibility has led to an ad-hoc, unstructured approach to the delivery of IT services. Mobile users are all too frequently given local admin rights and/or the … READ MORE >>
