Since I like this way of providing information more and more, encouraged by very positive feedback from our partners and customers, here a short addition to my last performance tuning blog.

Recently we run into an alarm state 1 at the beautiful orange colored RES Suppport floor: two reports of a slow responding RES Workspace Manager environment, could not be a coincident, although....

Performance blog 1 didn't help, part 2 is born by that. Luckily the issue has been sorted out quickly, check out the first one below.

  • Remove RES Workspace Manager full install from Database/SQL and File server With a full installation of RES Workspace Manager the security drivers are being

Since RES PowerFuse 2010 SR1 a new option has been introduced within the RES PowerFuse / Workspace Manager Console: Disable Active Setup.

Still a lot of questions arise around this subject. Let me try to explain a bit more and give a nice example from a current customer case.

    The purpose of this blog?
Disable Active Setup is more and more used as a logon-speed-up feature. Fact is that Active Setup takes some valuable time from the user at logon. This post describes some random performance tips, triggered by some issues reported at RES Software Support. When you are busy in maintaining everything for your users, you might ‘forget’ to plan some maintenance within your RES Workspace Manager Console. These are sorted like the order within the RES Console. 1.  Context 1.1  Clean up Directory Services (Context – Directory Services) Check for Directory Services or Microsoft ... READ MORE>>

In a troubleshooting proces some very easy steps can be taken to retrieve a lot of necessary information. RES Automation Manager can help to gather a lot of information with a few simple clicks. For example: A customer is experiencing troubles with their Citrix servers, users sessions will not log off correctly, servers will hang at the end of the day. Where to begin? First step should be to have insight why the sessions are not ending properly, which processes keep the session active? You can open your server consoles each hour, check the taskmanager, write down the problem sessions, but there is a much easier way. Create a job within RES Automation Manager to run recurring each hour on ... READ MORE>>

This blog describes a rare issue with printers at a customer’s site. Environment: In fact everything seemed to be configured correctly: - Windows 2008 + Citrix XenApp - Universal Printer Driver - Printers "Fast Connect" within RES PowerFuse - Mandatory User Profiles The registry settings concerning the user’s printers were correct. So far so good. Problem: When the user tries to open the printer properties, or was going to print for the very first time it took ages before there was shown anything: sometimes nothing happened, sometimes a ‘not responding’ message, sometimes the second shot was successful, but always the following Windows Event Log error: The print spooler failed to reopen an existing printer connection because it could not read ...
