Publishing to multiple Citrix XenApp farms

My colleague Roland van Dorp has written a blog article named RES Powerfuse 2010 SR3 and Citrix Publishing, please read it for background info. This article has the latest changes on Citrix XenApp Publishing from RES Workspace Manager 2012.

Based on the blog article of my colleague you can place the following registry key to start a published application through the Citrix XenApp Services Site.

Microsoft Windows 64-bit:

Key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\RES\Workspace Manager

Type:

REG_SZ

Value name:

CTX_PNLaunchUsesFarmName

Value data:

<Farm name defined in the Citrix XenApp Services site
(See yellow marking in picture)

Microsoft Windows 32-bit:

Key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\RES\Workspace Manager

Type:

REG_SZ

Value name:

CTX_PNLaunchUsesFarmName

Value data:

<Farm name defined in the Citrix XenApp Services site
(See yellow marking in picture)

When this is set in the registry of a PC or server then this is valid for all sessions on this PC or server. This could be an issue when in your Citrix XenApp Services site you have specified multiple Citrix XenApp farms , each Citrix XenApp farm connects to a different Citrix XenApp environment maybe a different version of Citrix XenApp.

You can say that it is not necessary to connect to a published application via the PNagent option because there is still the option to use an ICA file for this.

Yes that is true, however in the new Citrix XenApp 6.0 and Citrix XenApp 6.5 editions there is a catch to use ICA files for your published applications.

First:

In the ICA file there must be the name or IP address of a Data Collector server with the port number of the XML service (if this is not the default port).

Second:

Session Sharing is not working with an ICA file by default. To make this work with an ICA file you must place the following value in the ICA file: SessionSharingKey=*

In RES Workspace Manager 2012 there is a new option which you can set per application. In the Publishing tab on the application you can click the PNagent option and there you can fill in the farm name in which Citrix XenApp farm this application is available. See the yellow marking in the picture below.

In this option you must specify the farm name which you have specified in the Citrix XenApp Services Site. This option is added in Fixpack 4 based on RES Workspace Manager 2011 SR4 .

Note:
The Farm name option is case sensitive; please type it exactly as defined within the Citrix XenApp Services Site. When you use this option then do not use the CTX_PNLaunchUsesFarmName registry key.

To use Citrix XenApp publishing from RES Workspace Manager to a specific Citrix XenApp farm you must do this from an RES Workspace Manager console running on a server in this specific Citrix XenApp farm.
