Sneak Peek: Synergy Barcelona Sessions
By Grant Tiller, Senior Product Manager
Hi All,
I am writing this just prior to leaving for Barcelona to attend Citrix Synergy. We have been busy, and I wanted to share some things with you!
RES Software have been working very closely with Citrix over the last few weeks, leading to some great announcements that will be coming from both of us at Synergy in sunny Barcelona. You’ll have to wait in suspense because some of that news will remain “top secret” until Synergy.
What I can tell you about is that leading up to Barcelona, we have been working with Peter Blum (Director Product Management for Citrix XenClient) and David Wagner (Principal Product Manager, focusing on User Profile Manager) discussing in detail where RES Workspace Manager can compliment and supplement in-the-box solutions like UPM.
There has been some confusion in the past around where the included technologies stop, and solutions like ours start. Luckily, the guys will be covering this in some of their breakouts during Synergy. In response to some of those conversations, I have made a couple of videos that highlight some of these differentiators, which will also be shown in the breakouts. So here is a sneak preview.
This video is all run in XenClient, and walks through transitions from Windows XP to Windows 7 to Windows 8 demonstrating a consistent look and feel between all of them (key to user productivity).
It highlights some key features of RES Workspace Manager:
• Zero Profile Technology and a user’s ability to restore their own settings
• Context Aware access to an application based on hardware
• Context Aware access to an application based on time and day
• Context Aware changing behavior of an application based on connectivity to a network
• Request access to an application from the corporate app store (RES Service Orchestration) and have access delivered dynamically to the user
• Persist user settings for the more obscure applications as well as the mainstream ones without being an application developer.
This second video looks into the three Citrix desktop delivery methodologies. Starting with Windows XP running on XenClient, moving to Windows 7 on XenDesktop, and finally moving to a XenApp session. Here we are persisting the user personalization across all delivery methodologies and all operating system types. The user can take their identity with them, and restore settings on a self-service basis, saving time and negating unnecessary help desk calls.
I hope you enjoy these videos, and be sure to keep an eye on the blog for further comments ‘from the road’ with updates on this week in Barcelona.
In the meantime, it’s cloudy out there… so why not use RES Software to light up the way!
