Where “Hybrid” and “Intelligent” Desktops Intersect

Jeff Fisher, VP, Business Development

Whether you look at it from a device perspective, or at the delivery platform level, it’s become abundantly clear that there is no longer such thing as a homogenous IT environment. Today’s users are too dynamic and require too much flexibility for the traditional approach to IT. RES has spent a lot of time defining this newly emerging “hybrid desktop” trend, and helping customers adapt to the quickly changing needs of users.

Part of our commitment to the hybrid desktop movement is collaborating with other technology providers to really define what this change means, and how we can help customers get ahead of it. One of the most important things to consider is that the traditional, rich endpoint is still an important part of IT environments, and it will continue to remain prevalent even as desktop virtualization becomes more mainstream. That’s because the most efficient and effective hybrid environments will  continue to leverage local resources in addition to the datacenter.

Intel has echoed the RES vision of the hybrid desktop in their own “intelligent desktop virtualization” model, which they will present at a session during Citrix Synergy this week. What makes intelligent desktop virtualization different than the desktop virtualization that many consider standard today?

  • Centralized Management and local execution for  better user experiences and better economics
  • The delivery of layered images
  • Intelligent device management

RES helps manage user configuration and personalization across these local and virtual sessions, supporting this intelligent desktop virtualization model and providing users an uninterrupted experience, while IT is able to utilize and centrally manage the right mix of technologies and devices.

Check out the presentation below on how RES supports the hybrid desktop, and the concept of intelligent desktop virtualization,  across multiple platforms:
