Check out the Product Pricing and Packaging Changes We’re Excited About
When our partners and customers speak, we like to listen! While planning the new version of RES Workspace Manager, we spoke to many of our partners and customers. During these conversations, we learned that many customers face the same challenges today that NEED to be fixed. And those customers also have similar wish lists for the future. It is especially important to understand why we made these changes because pricing is a direct result of combining the right functionalities in a product. I would like to give you some insight into the rationale behind the decisions and the two immediate changes at RES that resulted from our conversations in the field:
- Named-user licensing in addition to concurrent licensing
- Modular approach to building workspaces
The first major change to note is our introduction of named-user licensing, which is a practical response to the growing use of workspace management in hybrid desktop environments. One license for a user with multiple (hybrid) desktops allows them to login to a laptop, virtual desktop, or even via a remote desktop on the iPad. Moving forward, we will support both license types, even in a single environment. Just think of the flexibility and cost savings of having named-user licensing for laptop users and concurrent licenses for those task workers who work in different shifts or even different time zones.
The Rule of Three
Workspace Manager 2011 now consists of three modules, with each module offering a unique value for enterprises dealing with the complexity of the desktop.
The first module within Workspace Manager, Composition & Personalization, creates this user workspace, is context aware, and is totally separate from the underlying infrastructure. These are the first steps to manage users, as well as their location and their content needs, instead of managing the device only. Many times this is explained as “persistent personalization.”
The next step in the modular structure is to acquire insight into the user workspace, creating a predictable state and showing clear reports in case of troubleshooting. To support an administrator’s overall control, integration with application virtualization allows IT to deploy a full desktop from one console. To support different levels of administrators, delegation of control is available through the second module Advanced Administration.
When the user workspaces are in place and IT has control over them, it is then possible to secure the workspace. IT can simply secure the usage of USB storages devices when an employee is not on the corporate network, or elevate rights to local administrators for only the selected applications. These functionalities and more are supported in the third module Workspace Manager Module, Security & Performance.
The Composition & Personalization is available for $30 per named user. Upgrading to Advanced Administration Module and Security & Performance Modules, one-by-one, only costs an additional $30 each. With this approach, IT managers can introduce a more strategic philosophy, taking small steps to that big goal of dynamic desktops.
In addition to Workspace Manager, RES Software offers a product called Automation Manager. Automation Manager is built around the IT manager to automate their day-to-day tasks, which helps to standardize and assure the result of each task performed.
Workspace Manager can be combined with RES Automation Manager. All Workspace Manager and Automation Manager modules together form our Dynamic Desktop Studio.
At RES Software we understand that changing your infrastructure is not something you do overnight. Most of the time it requires a fix today to allow you to make bigger changes in the future. That’s why we offer the Dynamic Desktop Studio Lite, a powerful solution that allows you to separate the user from the underlying desktop and introduce automation that saves time and simplifies. When you are ready for more advanced workplace management or automation, you can upgrade to more feature-rich modules. Is there anything more powerful than a product that grows with your needs?
RES Software offers three products:
- RES Virtual Desktop Extender
- RES Workspace Manager
- RES Automation Manager
RES Workspace Manager will contain three modules:
