Licenses

You can’t work with them but you can absolutely not work without them. In this blog I intend to give you more information regarding licenses and learn you how to control your licenses.

Before we can start, I need to explain the there is an ‘old’ license model and a ‘new’ license model for RES PowerFuse. In RES PowerFuse 2005 and earlier, license key’s where used. In RES PowerFuse 2008 and later, xml files are used. In this blog, I will only discuss the model of 2008 and later. I will inform you about upgrading your licenses from 2005 to 2008 or later.

One of the new features of RES PowerFuse 2010 is the Zero Profiling technology. The technology handles the personal settings of a user when using Mandatory, Roaming, or Local profiles. Of course companies want to get rid of roaming profiles because of the well known roaming profile issues of this profiling technology. As we all know, roaming profiles get corrupted, or grow so large, login times get compromised.

From several experiences with a Citrix XenApp 6 environment using Citrix Online Plugin 12 installed for launching passthrough applications we have created a short demo movie.

This movie will show a best practice for:
  • How to launch a RES PowerFuse Desktop as initial application. Chosen is to start a ICA Desktop and RES PowerFuse as Custom User Interface by GPO. Advantages for this method: # Desktop is launched as a real desktop:  Minimizing issues with taskbar, focus, screensaver, dual screen, etc. # Easy to exclude Administrators, they can start a desktop without launching RES PowerFuse  
  • Publish an Acrobat Reader within RES PowerFuse as passthrough application using Content Redirection

Recently a few customers and partners asked RES Support about updating their RES PowerFuse 2008 environment to a newer Service Release and if it was possible to have two Service Releases running next to each other in the same environment. RES Software has PowerPacks to upgrade a RES PowerFuse installation. With a PowerPack you can upgrade from any RES PowerFuse version to the latest version of RES PowerFuse. The PowerPacks are available in two versions:
  • PowerPack for an interactive upgrade, needs to be applied once in every environment. You can follow the upgrade process and any error will be displayed.
  • Auto_Powerpack for an unattended installation of the upgrade.
